They will start meeting on September 30th and will go for ten weeks (with a break for Thanksgiving). Your D-Group is where you can be a part of a smaller community within The Yard. It's a great place to grow closer to other students and leaders and be challenged in your faith.

Also, start thinking now about serving. You will have the opportunity to serve in Kidzone, Vibe (if you're at least a sophomore), or The Yard. More information on that will be coming in the next few weeks.

At the end of the night, I challenged each of you to take a hard look at how you're really doing. Are you merely a hearer of the Word, or are you a doer? Is there anything standing between you and a growing relationship with your Savior? Then do whatever you need to do to take care of it. Remember, we're given one short life here to determine how we'll live for eternity.

James | Now vs. Forever

Wut up Yardigans!

Last night we talked about James 1:9-12. In these verses James draws a very stark contrast between living with a "now" perspective and living with a "forever" perspective.

We learned that rich or poor, young or old, male or female, we are all made equal in Christ. We saw that persevering under trial is a characteristic of those who truly love God, because trials are the times when what is really in our hearts is seen most clearly. Once we put our faith in Christ our salvation itself is secure, but God gives us the opportunity to earn eternal reward that goes beyond simply getting into Heaven.

For those of you who want to persevere under trial but don't know how to, I challenged you to seek intimate fellowship with God daily and to live in true community with other believers. That means being open and vulnerable about what is really going on in your life.

For those of you who haven't yet decided that it's worth it to persevere under trial, I showed you that James reminds us that there's much more at stake than the life we see. Most of what is going on, we don't see. When standing before Christ one day, I believe that many Christians will regret having wasted time, but no one will ever regret difficult things they endured for Him. What we do here on earth during the years we are given literally determines how we'll live for eternity.

Live each day with eternity in mind, because it is always more than worth it.

I love you all very much. Have a great week!

Worldview Wednesday | Backpack School Supply Project

Good afternoon Yardigans!

If you were at church on Sunday, you heard about the Backpack School Supply Project that Chase Oaks is partnering with other churches and organizations to put on. This is a great opportunity to help needy children in our community by providing them with school supplies!

What can you do to help?

1) Purchase a backpack and fill it with the required supplies for whatever grade level you choose. Supply lists are inside of the brochures that are located in seat backs in the main building at church and in 201.
2) Purchase any amount of random supplies from the list.
3) Volunteer to serve at Resurrection Lutheran Church separating and packing supplies from 10am-12pm any weekday from July 20th-August 21st. Call Lee Mullen at 972-979-8715 to volunteer.

If you purchase backpacks or random supplies, bring it to church this Friday evening, July 31st or this Sunday, August 2nd.

I love you all, see you Sunday!

Worldview Wednesday | Lessons Learned

Wut up Yardigans?

This week I want to challenge anyone who went on our mission trip to post a lesson you learned from the wonderful believers in Chihuahua as a comment on here. So far it has been really great and the students are loving it. Tonight we completed the second part of our redemption story (make sure and ask your students about it) and we had a huge party. Can't wait for a good shower when we get home and some good rest. We only walk about 5-7 miles a day... Yikes!!!

Camp Eagle

We made it.

I am sorry it took so long to get the word out, but the internet has been down and is now obviously back up. He says "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Obviously, us living and thinking beyond our own limited experiences and environments is important to God. I would encourage you to put in the effort to be informed about what is going on around the world. Also, remember that as Christ-followers, we represent Him in every interaction we have with others. So go and make disciples!

James | 1:4-8

Yaawwwnnnnn.... Yikes I am tired.

Well we just straight back into James last night and walked through verses 4-8. It was quite an experience, wouldn't you say? We uncovered some truth about wisdom and realized that the condition of our hearts has a huge impact on the generosity of God's wisdom.

Sometimes that can be a little overwhelming considering the urgency in which we receive things here in America. The thought of my responsibility when receiving such things (as wisdom) can deter us from even asking. What a thought? I know that at our ripe ol' age of 14-18 you are not exactly on the forefront of gaining mass amounts of this so called Wisdom, considering it is for old people, but it can make a world of difference in our lives.

Take some time this week and read back over James 1:4-8 and listen to the podcast. Focus on what God has and is calling you to and move toward that goal. Two Sundays ago was the yearly update on the project, and the service was beyond awesome. If you didn't get a chance to attend church that Sunday, you can watch the video here or listen to the podcast.

We are currently supporting 69 church planters in Northern Ethiopia. These are believers who local churches send out to plant new churches in different cities and villages. Many of them face intense persecution during their ministries. Through the planters we support, 941 new believers have come to know Christ so far.

Chase Oaks also helps to provide care for the poor. We support shelters that provide widows with medical care, food, and water, and we will be opening a school this fall. Many of the students in the school will be kids who would have no other way to be educated.

The Ethiopia project is one of the most exciting things going on in our church. I would encourage you to pray about how God may be calling you to get involved.

What can you do to help?

1) Pray for everything and everyone surrounding the Ethiopia project: our leaders at Chase Oaks, the leaders of the ministries we partner with, the church planters, pastors, teachers, and others who serve in Ethiopia, etc.
2) Consider giving to the Ethiopia fund. You can choose to give a one-time gift or commit to giving a certain amount every month for a year.

James | 1:1-4

Good Morning Yardigans!!!!

I hope you all had a great weekend and CONGRATULATIONS to all our new graduates! We jumped straight in last night and covered all of 4 verses. Haha J James 1:1-4; WATCH OUT!!!

The theme from last night was “Joy in Trials”. I know at first glance this seems to be ironic to modern American thinking and reactions, but the truth is, it is completely biblical. God is not a evil deity in the sky loving to watch up squirm around from test and trial and smiling at us thinking, “where’s your joy, where’s your joy, little human thing”. No not at all. He is loving and knows that the testing of our faith serves 2 purposes, to test the authenticity of our faith and to grow us up in perseverance so that we will be complete and lacking in nothing. I am not going to ask you to recite it or come up to me and tell it to me. I will ask through that you etch it on your heart and memorize it so it become a part of your faith, not just a quote to console your emotion.

I love you and hope you have a great first week of summer.

Worldview Wednesday | Slavery

Good evening Yardigans. This week I want to raise your awareness about an issue that most of us think is in the past. We have all learned about the slavery in the history of the U.S. We know that it was terrible, and we are relieved that it ended. However, I come to you today with some sobering news: there are more slaves in the world right now than there have ever been in the history of the world.

Slavery takes many forms. The kind we tend to be most familiar with is chattel slavery, which was what the slavery in the U.S. was. Two other types of slavery are child slavery and debt bondage; these are the types that are big today.

Debt bondage occurs when workers are paid too little to meet their basic needs in life and are literally trapped into their jobs. Sadly, this happens even in the U.S. For example, many prostitutes here are women who were recruited from other countries based on the promise of a better life in the U.S. They had no idea what kind of work they would be doing, and they were told that once they paid off their traveling expenses they were free to go wherever they wanted. Then, once they got here, they realized that the "traveling expenses" could never be paid, trapping them into one of the worst lives imaginable.

What can you do to help?

1) Pray, pray, and pray some more for those who are currently living life in bondage.
2) Help to make your family and friends aware of the magnitude of slavery in the world today.

Worldview Wednesday | My Friend's House

What's up Yardigans? Sorry for not posting last week, but we're back in action! This week I want to take a look at a need that hits a little closer to home.

One of the non-profit organizations that Chase Oaks partners with is City House. They provide many services to children and youth in Collin County, including an emergency shelter for teens ages 10-17, family counseling, life skills education, a parenting skills group, and crisis intervention. They are currently working on building My Friend's House, which will be an emergency shelter for infants to nine year-olds.

400 children are removed from unsafe homes in Collin County every year, but there are only 100 foster families in the whole county. This means that in many cases, children who are already going through a rough time are further traumatized by having to move far away from what they know here. My Friend's House will provide a safe place for many of these children to live and still be able to attend their school, visit with family and friends, etc.

In order for My Friend's House to be completed in time, they need support of all kinds.

What can you do to help?

1) Pray for God's provision for City House as they strive to raise the support they need to complete My Friend's House in time.
2) Help to raise awareness by talking to your friends and family about what City House does for the community and the support they need.
3) Check out their registries at Target and Babies-R-Us, and consider purchasing one or more of the needed items yourself, as a family, as a group of friends, or as a D-Group.
4) Make an online donation here.

God is Good

I just wanted to update you on some things that we discussed @ The Yard and give you a few announcements.

#1. I know that it has only been a week, but I have really missed you all. I hope that school is not killing any of you and that you are all studying hard for the AP tests that have passed and the finals that are to come. You will be fine, just STUDY!!

Anyway, for a wrap up of last night...

We ended our series on the topic of prayer. I know that in our circles, or at least in the Christian circle we throw that word around a lot...I mean A LOT!! But how many of us actually pray for someone when we say we will. How many of us spend time specifically each day in prayer?

We answered 3 simple questions.

#1 What is prayer?

#2 How do we pray?

#3 Do I pray? (I didn't answer this one...you have to)

#1 Pray is the place where pride is abandoned, hope is lifted, and supplication is made. Prayer is the place of admitting our need, of adopting humility, and claiming dependence upon God. Prayer is the needful practice of the Christian. Prayer is the exercise of faith and hope. Prayer is the privilege of touching the heart of the Father through the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

What an idea? That prayer is our way to touch the heart of the Father. The reality is that it is just a conversation. It is simply the direct line we have with God. The hard part some times though, is that conversation requires 2 people communicating, that means 2 people talking back and forth. That is where I lose some of you. When I said this last night, I had so many faces giving me the same look I always get when I say listen for God's voice...(really Rocky, I have been a Christian "my whole life" and I have never heard God's voice..face). I know that you get tired of hearing that, but until you decide to really listen, don't tell me you can't hear him, that just doesn't make sense.

#2 How can I pray:

1. First you must start praying. (for those of you not here yet)

2. Find a time and stick to it. (if you hate mornings, don't choose morning time for prayer)

3. Pray out loud. (if will help you not daydream if you make yourself form complete sentences)

4. Make a list. (it is cool to see God start crossing stuff off your list)

5. Use a prayer journal. (and put your list in the journal)

6. Don't start with a novel, just a main idea.(you don't to write a prayer novel, just pray)

7. Use time that you would normally waste.(ie. time spent on Facebook, texting, so on)

8. ACTS.(Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication.(look them up)

#3 Do you pray?

I know that seems a little weird to be asked a question when the pastor is supposed to do all the answering, but this one requires your input and your energy. You see I can give you tons of tips, and tons of ideas. I could write out a prayer for you to use as an example and you could have 10 pages of notes on prayer. But if you don’t pray then it is a waste of time.

So take some time this week, listen to the Podcast again and pray.....

Love you all...Peace

Worldview Wednesday | Food Crisis in the Horn of Africa

Hey Yardigans, it's Karen. I hope you all are having a great week. Today I want to shed some light on a global issue.

For a while now there has been a pretty bad drought in the Horn of Africa, which includes the countries of Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Uganda. Food was already hard to come by in that region, and the drought has made it even worse. 9.2 million people are in need of food aid to prevent them from starving to death.

What can you do to help?

1) Pray for God's provision for the people in the Horn of Africa.
2) Donate to an organization that is helping to provide food aid to the region. A great organization to donate to is World Vision, and you can donate by clicking here: Horn of Africa Food Crisis

Going Green | How to Study the Bible

What up?!?

I hope that you all had a great weekend and an even better Sunday night at THE YARD. I missed you all tons but had a great mini-vaca..(and NO, that is not a little cow). Anyhoo, I wanted to just give a quick update on what when down last night at THE YARD for all those who were texting or just missed it all together (like me...whoops).

How to study the Bible?? That is a good question that many of us struggle with, especially when we don't "understand" what it is saying or how it "applies" to us. I know that for me, it took a quite a long time to get to a place where I began to feel confident about what I was reading and if I could apply it to me life. Since most of us feel this way, let's talk about some ways to overcome these reasons {excuses} for not reading the bible and try to build a little confidence.

#1

Start by placing 3 bookmarks in our bible.[you have 3 by now, I gave them to you]. Take the bookmarks and put them in the beginning of Genesis, Job & Luke. Then each day read one page from each of these. It is really cool how in just a few weeks you will begin to put the whole story that the bible is telling all together. Try it, it is really cool.

#2

Once you start to read out of each of these books, make sure you are following these guide lines. Always read complete thoughts, complete paragraphs and if necessary complete chapters then books. Try not to close your eyes, turn the pages until you jam your finger in the middle and then see where it lands and be convinced that is what God wanted you to hear. Trust me, it doesn't work.

#3

Then, as you have begun reading and are not doing random finger jam on the poor little bible pages, think through these 5 points with each section you read to see if there is something more that meets the eye.

S- sin to confess -- ask yourself if it brings us anything you should confess to God

P- promise to claim -- did God make a promise that can bring us hope and we can claim

A- attitude to change -- do we have a bad/wrong attitude about anything

C- command to obey -- does God mention a command that we should follow or obey

E- example to follow -- is there something that Christ does that we should be doing also

I hope that this will jump start some of you taking daily time to read your bible. I know that at first glance it seems really overwhelming but it just takes time and some effort. I promise if you give some effort you will reap what you sow. Have a great day. Peace

Worldview Wednesdays

What’s up yardigans, this is Karen. I wanted to let you know that I'm going to be posting on Monkey on a Moped every Wednesday to spotlight a local, national, or global issue. As believers, we are called to be the light and salt of the world, and we cannot do that effectively if we consistently turn our focus inward. We should strive to live with our eyes wide open to the world around us. I hope that Worldview Wednesdays will be one way that we at The Yard can help you connect to need by informing you and giving you the chance to get involved.

Going Green | Fasting

Last night one of our great interns Eric Torrence shared a message on Fasting. As we dug into the idea of hunger and not just the hunger for food, but the hunger God has put in us that desires Him more. We explored where this comes from and then even what to do with it.

Eric challenged us all to pray and to seek God, to see if He would have us fast in order to know him more. So this week, check out the podcast on itunes, spend some time in prayer and see what God might have you fast from; Facebook, texting, food, ipods? You never know how clear God's voice can be until you listen.

Love you and See you soon.

The Yard

<img style="display:block; This was part 1 in our 5 part series looking at some core spiritual disciplines in our lives.

We hit stewardship on 2 different levels last night. The stewardship of our stuff and the stewardship of our souls. I believe that one is just a litmus test for the other. If our stuff is not being stewarded well then I am not convinced that is the biggest red flag. I think it is simply a reality that the soul needs some work and the stuff is just revealing it.

You see stewardship is more that eco-friendly cars, using resources wisely, and a confident 10% each month. Not that I think any of those things are bad or unimportant but I do believe that if we choose to not steward our hearts then we will spend a lifetime adding adjustments to ease our symptoms and never really cure the sickness that dwells within our souls.

Be sure to check out our podcast on itunes and subscribe to it so that you get the full message. Also, in the message we watched a video and that is what is below.

Have a great week and talk to you soon. Peace.

<object width="320" height="266" class="BLOG_video_class" id="BLOG_video-6cff9a722024667b" If you haven't noticed... that is your new name!!

I want to start off my saying THANK YOU once again. It is so great to know that I am surrounded by family that loves me and allows me to share my heart with them. It really does bring joy to my life.

Alert and Oriented times...? I don't know where you fall or where you stand on this but I do know that it is worth asking. I know that it is worth my time and effort to get you to look into your life and see where your relationship with God is and how you much progress you make each week. As we pushed through this a little and continued our discussion we transitioned into baptism. I know that right off the bat we jumped into some good questions about it and hope that it was helpful. I will list below the questions and brief answers and hope that it helps those of you who made a discussion to get baptized as well as persuades some of you who are on the fence to look closer at why you have not taken that step.

1. When and how does it happen? -- Over and over the in the bible you see new believers continually getting baptized immediately after believing. There are references in Acts 8 and Acts 16 of this. We see many times those who are mentally and spiritually capable of making the decision, publicly proclaiming their faith by way of baptism. This is our first act of obedience. As far as how, we believe that you should be dunked/submerged completely during your baptism. Does this mean that if you are sprinkled or poured then you are wrong or bad? Absolutely not, but we find that dunking/submerging is biblical. The greek word for baptism is baptizo (except in greek). This word literally means to dunk or submerge. Man translated the word into baptism through way of transliteration , not a true translation... start dunking.

2. What if I was baptized as a baby? -- Well the bible tells to baptize babies 0 times in the bible and it has 0 instances of babies being baptized. So does this mean that if you were baptized as a baby that you are bad or wrong. Absolutely not... it means that your parents wanted to dedicate you to God and hope that you would grow up to know him. So should you be baptized again now that you understand it and want to make that proclamation for yourself. Absolutely. And, if you are worried about offending them or making them upset, just consider who you are concerned about offending... God or them?

3. Who can baptize you? -- Any follower of Christ can. When our church was founded a long time ago, Gene Getz found that biblically any follower of Christ had the authority to baptize other in the name of Christ... so your dad, mom, friend or pastor. :)

4. Is baptism necessary for salvation? NO.

5. Can I still get into heaven without being baptized? Yes, but I would question your desire to go to heaven if the glorification of God is not the highest desire. I say this because honestly there will come a day when you stand before God and you will not only give an account for your life but say to Him, I chose not to obey you and not to glorify you by not being baptized because I wanted it my way, not yours.

I hope this helps and if you are interested and didn't fill out a card, then please Facebook me or leave a comment on here and I will get back to you ASAP!!!

Love you.

I'm Back

What up everybody.. First of all I don't want to get anything if it cost all I have and secondly this whole "supreme therefore" business is a little crazy. But, what is God's desire for my life if "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." Proverbs 9:10

Well first, watch this video and see if wisdom starts here.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v22.nonxt3.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D6035cad1859831f9%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331187447%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D12056DA8B532A989962A2FBF4D3E1CEFD8AD0C1E.1D9DB2EE3454C79765148392817D1E0F8F993617%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D6035cad1859831f9%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3D0QcHo_D9IUei_sFVpyEBVgkqW1Q&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Ok, so I know that this is not what God intended for us to pursue when he said "get wisdom" but I think this is how we treat it. As believers in Christ we assume that we have to be wise and discerning all on our own and just like the owl who really has no clue how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, makes it up because he is supposed to be wise. His infamous words are "1, 2, 3, *CRUNCH*... 3 licks." He knows it doesn't take 3 licks or even 300 licks but because the supposed to be a wise ol' owl he makes it up.

For us, I believe that if when Jesus is asked what the greatest commandments of all were and he responded with "Love your Lord with all your heart, all your mind, all your soul and all your strength and then love your neighbor as yourself" and "the beginning of wisdom is a fear of the Lord" then the 1, 2, 3, crunch idea is not so good. It begins with a surrender to Christ and an allowance of Him to be the ultimate authority in our lives. It seems to be that no matter what area of our lives we look at God has created us to love Him and pursue him and allow Him to be the deciding factor in all that we do.

This week ask yourself:

1. Do I know Christ? Not do I know about Him or of Him, but am I in relationship with him?

2. Will I allow him to be the ultimate authority in my life? Will I surrender?

Love You All!!

Save Sky Ranch Missions

Helllllloooooo,

Just wanted to post this again and hopefully raise a little more awareness. As most of you know I used to work at a place called Sky Ranch. It is a summer camp for kids age 6-18 and is one of the greatest weeks of your life. Well, unbeknownst to some, Sky Ranch also has a missions department. Each summer Sky Ranch sends financial support as well as college counselors overseas to Kenya, Russia and France. The not only get to hang out and play with the children of the Maasai Tribe in Kenya, teach English to the students in France, and assist with activities with disabled children in Russia, they also share Christ.

Well as many of us know, the economy is not what it was before and they have found themselves short in the donation area when it comes to the mission department. Below you will find a link to the "Save Sky Ranch Missions Site" and more information about it.

www.saveskyranchmissions.com

This Sunday at The Yard we will be selling shirts and taking donations to send to Sky Ranch so I would ask that over the next few days you pray about how you can be of assistance to these children and hope you enjoy the site. Love you and talk to you soon.

Rocky

"Be" | Relationships

So, play along with me for a moment. Raise your hand if you have ever thought about having a boy/girlfriend before? Ok, put your hand down no one can see you. :) What makes us have these thoughts? What is it that causes us to find romantic relationships so appealing?

1. Is it the attention?

2. Is it the affection?

3. Is it the desire to be loved?

4. Is it the need to feel wanted and accepted?

I think so often it is all of the above and that is ok. We were created to feel these things, it is normal. Geniuses 2:18 "And the Lord God said, 'It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him"

You see those feelings and desires are from God. The way we are attracted to others, to be in relationships with other and to pursue getting to know others is natural. It is what we do with it that has destroyed it. We have manipulated it, twisted it and caused our hearts to much grief over it because we have given into the ideas of make-out partners, friends with benefits and booty calls. And I know that some of you would argue and say no but the reality is that 5 out of 10 high school students will have sex before the age of 18 and the reality is that in christian circles the percentage is high because no one questions the christian kid.

At the end of the day I am not saying that I think you should "Kiss Dating Good-Bye" or unless you find the perfectly "Dateable" one then you should stay single forever. And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

So for us I think this brings us back to the beginning. Before we pursue a boy/girlfriend and get caught in the manipulated view of sex and love we must ask ourselves if we are holding true to these 2 commandments. Are we pursuing Christ with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength or are we pursuing an emotional fix that will never fill our need and inevitably leave us empty. Don't believe the hype: Sex is a beautiful thing created by God to be the molding and uniting of souls...not the irresponsible physical display of lust that may feel good now but leave us empty later.

Where do you find ourself today? Are you pursuing Christ will all your being or are you complacent with chasing boys/girls looking for something to fill that void in our heart. Boyfriends and girlfriends are not bad or the devil, but like anything else when you put them before your pursuit of God they will not fulfill you.

Rocky

Authority & Parents

Hey Friends,

I hope you all have had a great Monday and just wanted to get our thoughts on Sunday Nights Message.

For those of you who weren't there, we talked about what God has created us to be when it comes to Authority and Parents. I know that it doesn't sound too fun, but when we know what God intends for us it all begins to make more sense. For example, I took some time and looked over some of your Facebook Statuses after President Obama was elected. I think that you were shocked to hear what some of your peers or maybe you had to say. As we looked through Romans 13:1-7 we began to see what God's plan was for us when it came to submitting to the Authority God has put into place.

As we continued we looked at Ephesians 6 and Colossians 3 to see how God has created us to interact with our parents. After a little digging we found that God desires us to respect, obey, and honor our parents. We ended the night by writing our parents a note expressing our thanks and gratitude toward them.

Let me know what you think and see you soon.

Sunday Night "Be"

Hello Family,

I was going to give you a run down to what happened on Sunday night but instead, I am going to re-post a comment that one of you made. Having a million questions and not nearly as many answers. But not just that, because I've gotten over the initial shock of knowing that I can’t ever know it all. What's still got me going is that when I do find an answer, I'll search for any excuse to discredit it.
God must be so furious with me right now. We both know that I'm drowning, and I know very well that he keeps sending life rafts and search parties my direction. So why in the heck am I still out here trying to swim on my own? All my excuses and self-proclaimed notions are getting me nowhere. When God responded to my silent "help me"s, I tried to challenge him and say "help my by doing___", and when God (who I, by the way, have no right to challenge) began to flood my life with blessings even I didn’t realize I was in need of, I stubbornly told him "I'm not ready".
Now what kind of an answer is that? How many of you would turn your back on the fireman who ran into your flaming bedroom and say, “hold on, let me check my facebook real quick”? None of you would. Unless you sincerely thought facebook could offer you something more valuable the fireman already had. Well I’ve got news for you: SuperPoke and BumperSticker applications have got nothing on your Savior, Jesus Christ. So this is your chance-of-a-lifetime deal to get a whole lot more than just a lifetime.
Last night, at The Yard, when I was writing down stuff about myself on the note card, I saw a few contradicting words. Particularly the words Passion and Fear. There’s nothing wrong with either one, but when the second infringes upon the first, the word Coward comes to mind. I’m passionate about the word of Christ, but my fear of unanswered questions is weighing me down in the water. I’m acting like a coward in so many ways, but that’s not who I want to Be. I don’t know exactly what God is calling me to do in life, but I happen to know that no Father wants his child to be referred to as a Coward. So in the name of the ultimate Father who would do anything for his children, I’m going to reach out my hands and let the world know that I need help, and I’m ready to be saved.
Last year I was drowning. This year I will let someone rescue me and, God-willing, learn how to swim. This year is a year of rebuilding.

Have you ever felt this way?

Be

Who has God created YOU to Be?

I would love to hear some of your answers to this questions, as well as some of the questions you might have if you are not sure how to answer it.

Love you all and let's share our thoughts...that is the only way we will grow.

**Sky Ranch & Stuff**

Good Evening Friends,

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. Just to update you a little on what has been going on in The Yard over the last few weeks, we finished our Christmas series with a great night of worship and remembrance of Christ in the last night of the series "Rejoice." We had the awesome Sean Carter lead worship for us and he used one of his original songs that night called "Repeat"... the song he sung during my message. Then we had a couple weeks off for the break and then headed to Sky Ranch. Let's talk about that.

Friday Night - We started the night off right with no cell phones, no ipods and no chairs to sit in. That night we just talked about what the weekend would hold and then proceeded to play the amazing game "TREK". Big ups to Team #3 who pulled off the victory by collecting all 4 items the fastest. Way to go Team #3!!

Saturday Morning - We started the morning off by studying Romans 12:1-2 and discussing that we because of God's mercy to us that we should offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. As we discussed this more we started to understand that God asks us not to conform to the ways of the world but to be TRANSFORMED by the Renewing of our minds. That in order to have a life that is set apart and a life that is used to become the full expression of what God created us to be then we have to realize we start with a clean slate each day. That God does not hold grudges or an account of our sin, but rather lavishes Grace and Mercy upon us.

Saturday Evening - We started the evening session by me telling a story about my past. As I shared more about my own struggle with feeling like a failure and never feeling like I am good enough to succeed we transitioned to a video. I have posted that video on our YouTube site so you can check it out. This video was created to jog out minds and our hearts about our own lives. To force us to look inwardly and see what the giants that stand in front of us each day that keep us from pursuing God. We then spent the next few minutes creating our own Post Secret. After making our own cards I finished my story and gave conclusion to God's continued redemption in my own heart. The next 30 minutes would be amazing. You could literally see the freedom in the room. The pain, struggle, tears and relief was almost overwhelming. Praise God. 2 Corinthians 12:9, Ephesians 5:8-15

Sunday Morning - We started the morning with a funny game of pancake eating and then moved on to the message. HOPE IS NOT LOST!! God promises us that He will always be faithful. That redemption will come to those who seek Him and we can be assured that Hope is not lost. We have been given the gift of eternal life, we have the Hope of eternity, the Hope of freedom, the Hope of salvation. We ended by writing ourselves a letter telling ourselves what we wanted to be 6 months from now and will have our letters mailed back to us.

Overall, it was an amazing trip and I am so proud of everyone who went. Thank you all who came and participated in the weekend with us. I hope you all had a great weekend and have fun as school tomorrow!!

I Love You!!!

see, SMELL, rejoice

"1In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3And everyone went to his own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. They will understand the basic facts about His conception, His time in the womb, and the significance of His birth. They will at some point cover the basics on why CHRISTmas is called Christmas and leave it at that.

There are others, a few less, who will smell the aroma of the birth of Christ in there hearts. They will grasp the irony and majesty of Christ's birth. They will at some point consider the odds that were laid against Him and for a brief moment sit in awe of the reality that He was born to die. Not for himself, but for us.

Then there are the few, yes few, who will rejoice in their soul on the occasion of Christ's birth. They will have seen the imagine of Christ and smelt the aroma of this nobility and then REJOICE. They will not only sit in awe of his majesty and power but have a desire to change the course of not only their own life but the lives of those who they are surrounded by. Few will rejoice.

Sunday night we discussed this idea of smell. Not exactly like the actual smell, cow dung and camel breathe, but the aroma of a Saviors birth. It all started when a teenage girl would have a one of a kind encounter with a messenger of God the Father that would radically change her life. She would receive the news that she would become pregnant while still a virgin and give birth to a son named Jesus. She would need to disregard the stigma and negativity of society in order to fulfill what the messenger had proclaimed. This on its own would be a miracle. Then when the time came and the baby was to born a young man named Joseph would struggle to provide for his love and their child and lay her down in a stable to give birth to their first son. Joseph would be overwhelmed with joy and concern; his son was now here, but he still had only provided an animals home for his sons first night on earth. Only a few shepherds would come that night and rejoice for what they saw, but no one else would see. A couple of years later, 3 magi would come and bring 3 significant gifts to the child. Gold, a symbol of majesty and wealth; incense, a fragrant offering and aroma; myrrh, a resin used in embalming fluid a symbol of death. Jesus was born to die. Jesus was born to die...for you! This week i want you to consider the fact that Jesus was born to die, and not just a death for death sake but a death that would wipe our slates clean and allow us to be viewed by the Father as white as snow. He was born to die. What does that mean to you? Let me know!!

Love ya

see, SMELL, rejoice

Phil Wickham & Shane and Shane

Are you kidding me? They are amazing!!

Last night our church hosted the "Glory to the Highest" concert tour and it was phenomenal. It was so great to see 1400+ people at our church with their hands lifted in the sky praising God. I saw many of you there and hoped that all of you enjoyed it as much as I did. But, as usual I have a little something I want to bring up and get your input on. So, brace yourself...

Does the name Jonathan (Forever the Sickest Kids Lead singer) ring a bell. Well by the reaction that many of you gave I am assuming you have heard of him. Now, don't get me wrong, I love to see an occasional teeny bopper star with long bleached hair and a small entourage following him around, but honestly? I have never seen any of you react that way about anything...I mean anything. Am I mad, no, not at all cause I could really care less. But, I will say that I do wish that I could see some of us, yes "US", get that excited about something.

I know you are now drawing close to clicking off the page and being frustrated with me for telling you that I think we get all worked up about something that does not deserve our attention, but stick with me, I have a point. I would desire nothing less in my life than to get as excited about Christ as I do about music, bands, TV, movie stars or "Jonathan". I am in no way saying that I think any of these things are bad in and of themselves, but I do think that when we get more excited about "Jonathan" than we do about the fact that 1400+ members of the body were moments before worshiping our Savior together. I don't want to over spiritualize it or tell you that I think we are all heathens for getting excited about "Jonathan" or anything else, but I do want to know what keeps us from pursuing knowing Christ as much as we pursue knowing the latest trend and gossip about a star? Let me know what you think and see you tonight at 6:00!! love you and Jonathan!!

Whoa!!

So I got up this morning at about 6:45 to head over to my buddy Lane Davis' house (he is a volunteer for The Yard & a Plano Senior connection group leader) for a little breakfast and weekly Thursday meeting. As I pulled up I realized I didn't see his truck outside (he always parks in the same spot). So, I thought to myself, self, that is weird that I don't see his truck maybe he went to get some breakfast for us since he is such a good friend. Well, I continued up the stairs none the less and knocked on the door. He arrived promptly and let me in and I asked, "Sir, where is your truck?" He replied, "It is just parked in a different spot than normal." Hearing this I had no reason to believe that it wasn't and proceeded in for some good conversation and even better coffee.

Well about an hour and a half later and a pot of coffee, I sat around and talked while he got ready for work. Once he was ready we walked down stairs to get in our cars and head off to work. Then all of the sudden Lane stopped. He looked around and then looked at me and we came to a very very harsh realization. HIS TRUCK HAD BEEN STOLEN!!!

I am not kidding. The truck was gone. Not moved, no tricks, no funny April fools in December; straight up stolen. We both kind of stood there for a second wondering if this was real. Did Lane's truck really get stolen, is it really gone. Sure enough it was, history.

After a couple hours of phone calls and funny comments, I took him to Enterprise to get a rent-a-car and he was off to work. I tell you this for 2 reasons:

1. I think it is super crazy that his car is really gone and please pray for him as he tries to figure this out.

2. I want to remind all of us that our world is broken and we are broken. Last night Lane went to bed as usual and woke up this morning to the harsh reality that this life is nothing like eternity. Yes we have grace to pour upon each other, but it will never be like heaven. Is Lane mad, probably, is he frustrated, probably, but does he know where his treasure is...YES! A car is a car and it is terrible when it is gone, but he knows that regardless of the way this life treats us some time the reward in the end is worth so much more.

Lesson to be learned: lock your car doors and pray real real hard; run the race to gain the prize, regardless of the cost. Have a great Thursday!

<img width='1' height='1' Love and let me know!!!

Christmas??

Good Evening Peeps,

So what is Christmas? I find myself every year in a constant battle between baby Jesus and Santa's super duper workshop!!! I know that sounds ridiculous, but honestly I do. I see every commercial on TV, every new gadget that I feel like I "must" have, and the endless streets of lights and lights and lights. And in the midst of all this my little heart jumps back and forth trying to figure out what in the world I should "really" be focused on.

Tonight at THE YARD we talk a little bit about this. If you missed it, let me catch you up. We discussed the reality of Christmas; the true and biblical understanding of what Christmas is compared to the "Culturally Relevant American" Christmas we tend to fall victim to. Because we live in a such a fast paced world that screams me, me, me, we find ourselves caught in a pretty tough situation. Over and over in the bible we hear the gospel of Jesus presented as a free gift that required nothing of our own doing to receive and yet the so called "Spirit of Christmas" is all about what we have, what we will get and how much more can I get than you. I don't know about you, but that is kinda confusing. Yet, luckly for us there is a pretty clear description in Luke chapter 2 about what we should be celebrating...check it out...

"While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn...today in the town of David a Savior is born to you; he is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:6-7,11

Christmas is about the birth of Christ. Period. Not santa, iPhones, north poles, a new Wii, sweet Nikes or Christmas trees. This year, you and I have the opportunity to celebrate this truth and share it with others. We can celebrate not only the physical birth of Christ but celebrate the birth of Christ in our own hearts, as a reminder of not only his birth but of the gift of eternal life; heaven. So this week, think about Christmas. Think about what you will celebrate and reflect on the mystery and majesty of the birth of Jesus Christ. Love you guys and leave a comment and tell us what you are thinking????
